About Elise

Hi and welcome! My name is Elise Harowitz (formerly Ringenberg) (she/her/hers), and I am a licensed professional counselor (LPC,) board-certified dance/movement therapist (BC-DMT,) and Somatic Experiencing Practitioner (SEP). That is basically a lot of words to say that I take a holistic approach to mental health counseling, where both the body and mind are involved in the process.

I hold a Bachelor’s of Fine Arts in Modern Dance from Texas Christian University (Go Frogs!) in Fort Worth, TX. Upon studying and pursuing a career in dance performance, dance education, and Pilates instruction, I discovered the healing powers of movement on not only a physical but psychological level as well. This led me to down a road of self-discovery and ultimately in the direction of returning to school to pursue a Masters degree in Dance/Movement Therapy and Counseling. While studying at Columbia College in Chicago, I had the opportunity to learn from the experts in the field as well as intern in a variety of mental health settings.

I have experience working in day programs, outpatient, partial hospitalization, residential and inpatient settings.  Most recently, I worked in residential eating disorder treatment and inpatient hospitalization for children battling acute and chronic illnesses.  In addition to my therapeutic work, I have led workshops and webinars on trauma-informed practices and dance education.

My approach to therapy is grounded in the mind-body connection, as my overarching passion is to bring the body into the conversation, specifically into a relationship with the mind and one’s experience.  I integrate verbal therapy with dance/movement therapy, Somatic Experiencing, authentic movement, mindfulness, play, and expressive arts. I believe that tapping into these intuitive approaches of self-expression allows for greater awareness and growth.

I would be honored to help you start a compassionate conversation with yourself. Life brings challenges and with those challenges comes opportunity for growth. If you or your loved one is ready to embark on a new path towards self-discovery, I am here to offer support, guidance and strategies to facilitate healthy change.  I am committed to working alongside you with a nonjudgmental, empathic, and collaborative approach.
