Somatic Experiencing

Somatic Experiencing® (SE) is a body and sensory based approach to trauma processing that is grounded in the research and clinical work of Dr. Peter Levine.  Research shows that trauma is stored in the body and words cannot always express what is held, stuck, and stored in a person’s nervous system.  SE supports individuals resolve traumatic experiences from the past that are affecting their ability to live more fully in the present moment.

Everyone may benefit from connecting more fully to their body.  With that being said, Somatic Experiencing is most indicated for individuals struggling with…

The trauma response includes fight, flight, freeze and appease. These responses are normal reactions to perceived threats. One of the main goals of SE is to allow space to let your body do what it needs to do to become ‘unstuck’. This process is supported by giving focus to regulating the nervous system and de-emphaizing the narrative of the traumatic event(s).
